Dryer Vent Cleaning

Does Your Laundry Take A Long Time To Dry?
It's Usually Your Dryer Vent - Not Your Dryer!
Have You Ever Cleaned Your Dryer Vent?
Don't put your family and home at risk for fire by not properly maintaining your dryer exhaust duct and removable, transition vent.

Please watch NBC Today Show Video about clothes dryer dangers *(Please be patient - it takes 15-20 seconds to download and start automatically)

According to the CPSC *(Consumer Product Safety Commission) each year over 16,000 American families suffer home fires associated with their clothes dryer & lint build-up.
Lint starts to build up in the exhaust duct of your dryer from the very first use - even though the lint screen is cleaned before and after each use. The clothes dryer lint screen only traps 40-60% of the lint, so the other half of all this lint accumulates in your dryer duct.

Lint accumulation in dryer ducts from lack of cleaning is a known cause of dryer fires. Lint build-up causes the dryer to run inefficiently and use more energy, your clothes take longer and longer to dry, and it can cause dryer damage and costly repairs. The longer your dryer vent is – the more lint build up there will be that must be cleaned regularly. Some Dryer Ducts are are 15-30 feet long or more because the dryer is located in the middle of the home.

What causes clothes dryer fires?

Over time Lint Build-Up inside the dryer exhaust duct greatly reduces the exhaust air flow and makes the dryer work too hard and run too hot. The combination of highly flammable lint accumulation in the duct and an overheated dryer that may malfunction is a very dangerous mix. Lint Build-Up inside the dryer exhaust duct can also cause highly combustible lint to back up inside the dryer on the motor, the heat element, and the electrical connections which is a dangerous mix.

Some Common Signs that a Dryer Duct Needs to be Cleaned Are:

1)      Clothes are taking longer and longer to dry.

    2)      Your dryer stops repeatedly during a cycle.

          3)      There is no lint on your lint screen.

                 4)      Clothes are very hot to the touch after a dry cycle.

                  5)      Little or no air exiting the outside exhaust opening.

6)  Water is leaking from the Dryer Duct.

The longer your dryer vent duct is - the more dangerous lint build up you will have and the more often it should be cleaned properly.

If your dryer is not located directly next to an exterior wall,
YOU SHOULD CONTACT US NOW
because you have a long dryer vent with more lint build-up.

Using special high pressure reverse air equipment, we blast the lint out of your dryer vent from the outside exhaust hole, so we do not get lint in your house. We also use brush systems, vacuums and any other steps necessary to clean the dryer vent completely.

We will check to make sure you have the right type of dryer venting and inspect it as well. We can make any needed repairs or upgrades to your dryer vent.
It is very important to get a complete dryer vent cleaning each year, so DustGrabbers provides a FULL SERVICE DRYER VENT CLEANING. "Full Service" means the permanent dryer duct is completely cleaned, the dryer itself is pulled out and the backside is cleaned, the lint trap is cleaned, the area behind and underneath the dryer is cleaned, and the transition or temporary vent that attaches to the back of the dryer and to the permanent dryer duct in the wall is cleaned and inspected. This all should be done yearly at minimum and is very important. *Of course any parts replacement, repairs and upgrades, extremely clogged vents or bird nest removal would have a slightly extra cost, but not much, and it is always discussed.

Did you know that your dryer costs more to operate than most every other appliance in your home?
Removing lint build-up results in a "Greener" dryer that runs better and uses less energy to get your clothes dry. Drying times will be shorter with a clean dryer vent. Finally, the dryer itself can last longer since it's not stressed by the higher operating temperatures caused by the lint build-up and will require fewer repairs.

Dryer Vents need to be cleaned at least every 6-12 months.

We also clean Dryer Vents at Townhomes & Condos.

What can you do to help prevent a dryer fire?

***Have your dryer vent and exhaust duct cleaned regularly***

  1. Clean the lint screen before and after drying each load of clothes.

  2. Clean behind the dryer, where lint can build up. Keep the area around the dryer clean and free of clutter.

  3. Replace plastic, accordion-type vents with rigid or corrugated semi-rigid metal duct. Most manufacturers specify the use of a rigid or corrugated semi-rigid metal duct, which provides maximum airflow. The flexible plastic duct can more easily trap lint and is more susceptible to kinks or crushing, which can greatly reduce the airflow. The plastic vent is actually flammable.

  4. Take special care when drying clothes that have been soiled with volatile chemicals such as gasoline, cooking oils, cleaning agents, or finishing oils and stains. If possible, wash the clothing more than once to minimize the amount of volatile chemicals on the clothes and, preferably, hang the clothes to dry. If using a dryer, use the lowest heat setting and a drying cycle that has a cool-down period at the end of the cycle. To prevent clothes from igniting after drying, do not leave the dried clothes in the dryer or piled in a laundry basket.
  5. Do not leave the house with the dryer on or go to sleep with the dryer on.
